FAQs
How much does a website cost?
A standard website starts at £600, based on approximately 20 hours of build time. You'll need to supply your own text and images, and budget separately for a domain name (typically around £10–15 per year). All my websites include free hosting, saving you around £240 per year, and a content management system (CMS) so you can update your content yourself.
A bespoke website gives you full control over design, layout, colours, fonts, and functionality, ensuring your website reflects your brand. They typically require e-commerce, booking systems, third-party integrations, or custom user experiences. They start from £1,200, based on approximately 40 hours of build time. Larger or more complex projects are quoted individually based on scope. We'll plan the project together, and I'll provide a quote based on time estimates. A bespoke build gives you full control over design, layout, colours, fonts, and functionality, ensuring your website reflects your brand.
What does SEO mean?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. Rather than typing a website address directly, most people discover websites through search engines like Google. This makes search visibility one of the most important factors in a website's success.
SEO is the practice of optimising a website's structure and content so that it ranks as highly as possible in search results. A key starting point is identifying the keywords your target audience actually uses. Whilst typical searches combine a product, service, or type of business with a specific location, websites should also target adjacent terms that relate to their broader offering, such as the product specialisation, materials or processes used, and their ethos or philosophy.
How has artificial intelligence changed the way we search for information on the internet?
AI has made the way we search more conversational. Rather than typing short keywords, people now phrase searches as questions using voice assistants like Siri, Alexa, and Google, and AI tools build on their conversation history to personalise suggestions. For example, if you've been planning a trip with an AI assistant, it might recommend a specific shop based on interests learned from previous conversations.
Search engines themselves have also changed. AI-generated summaries appear at the top of results, sometimes answering a query without users even visiting a website.
For SEO, this means writing in a natural, question-and-answer style is increasingly important. Additionally, websites with authoritative, well-structured content that clearly addresses specific questions are more likely to be surfaced by AI search tools.
